The Benefits of CBD in Pets

CBD is completely safe to give to your pets. It is non-psychoactive, which means it can’t make your pet high. CBD oil from hemp contains less than 0.3% THC. CBD is non-toxic and there is no risk of overdosing.

Elderly pets can benefit significantly from CBD. Research shows CBD supports normal cellular function and promotes healthy aging through mitochondrial support. Mitochondria are the “energy factor” of our bodies. CBD is also being studied for antipsychotic, anti-nausea, anticonvulsant, and anti-inflammatory benefits. The anti-inflammatory benefits especially may offer the most benefit to the brain and aging.

CBD oil helps reduce inflammation naturally in the entire body and can help elderly pets suffering from joint pain. It’s not a cure for all joint issues, but it can ease inflammation caused by worn down cartilage. Dogs feel better and can stay active. It can also relieve painful symptoms of intestinal inflammation.

Many dogs suffer from situational and/or behavioral anxiety. CBD oil targets the endocannabinoid system to help the body balance emotions. The endocannabinoid system is made up of receptors that are spaced out and communicate to keep the body balanced. All mammals have the same endocannabinoid system. CBD oil works to initiate chemical transmissions between receptors to help pets feel calm in times of stress. It can be given to pets suffering from separation anxiety, phobias, and general anxiety.

Food and nutrients are essential for a healthy aging pet, and a good diet is especially important when a pet is battling a serious illness. They need food to give their body the strength to fight back, but many health conditions cause them to lose their appetite. When they can’t eat, they become weak and more vulnerable to damage caused by their illness. CBD oil can counter this effect by stimulating appetite and triggering the sensation of hunger. When an animal can eat without vomiting the food back up, they absorb much-needed nutrients to keep their body healthy.

More and more pet owners are using CBD oil to alleviate pain and promote overall well-being in their pets. There is much that scientists still don’t know, but initial studies show promising potential. Research and studies focusing on CBD oil for pets are ongoing, and pet owners and holistic veterinarians await results to learn just how far CBD oil can help to advance the future of veterinary medicine.
