Elderly pets can benefit significantly from CBD. Research shows CBD supports normal cellular function and promotes healthy aging through mitochondrial support. Mitochondria are the “energy factor” of our bodies. CBD is also being studied for antipsychotic, anti-nausea, anticonvulsant, and anti-inflammatory benefits. The anti-inflammatory benefits especially may offer the most benefit to the brain and aging.
CBD oil helps reduce inflammation naturally in the entire body and can help elderly pets suffering from joint pain. It’s not a cure for all joint issues, but it can ease inflammation caused by worn down cartilage. Dogs feel better and can stay active. It can also relieve painful symptoms of intestinal inflammation.
Many dogs suffer from situational and/or behavioral anxiety. CBD oil targets the endocannabinoid system to help the body balance emotions. The endocannabinoid system is made up of receptors that are spaced out and communicate to keep the body balanced. All mammals have the same endocannabinoid system. CBD oil works to initiate chemical transmissions between receptors to help pets feel calm in times of stress. It can be given to pets suffering from separation anxiety, phobias, and general anxiety.
Food and nutrients are essential for a healthy aging pet, and a good diet is especially important when a pet is battling a serious illness. They need food to give their body the strength to fight back, but many health conditions cause them to lose their appetite. When they can’t eat, they become weak and more vulnerable to damage caused by their illness. CBD oil can counter this effect by stimulating appetite and triggering the sensation of hunger. When an animal can eat without vomiting the food back up, they absorb much-needed nutrients to keep their body healthy.
More and more pet owners are using CBD oil to alleviate pain and promote overall well-being in their pets. There is much that scientists still don’t know, but initial studies show promising potential. Research and studies focusing on CBD oil for pets are ongoing, and pet owners and holistic veterinarians await results to learn just how far CBD oil can help to advance the future of veterinary medicine.

CBD has been shown to increase success with weight loss, regulate blood sugars, and lower blood pressure in many trials and studies.
A study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology showed that CBD not only reduced heart tissue damage but lowered arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythm) as well.
The results were dose dependent, so finding your correct dose is important.
Finding your correct dose can take a little trial and error. Most patients find results and reduction of symptoms with 1-6 mg of CBD per ten pounds of body weight. This means if you weigh 200 pounds, you will take 20-120 mg daily to find relief. Start at the lowest dose and work up to find your ideal dose.
Since THC can increase heart rate, consider isolates and high CBD/low THC strains.
Always check with your medical provider before discontinuing any medications.
Be aware CBD can interact with some heart/blood thinner medications which have grapefruit warnings on them. Please treat the CBD the same way you would grapefruit.

]]>In the 2021 Farm Bill, all hemp and its “derivatives, isomers, and cannabinoids” were made federally legal, so long as the hemp contains less than 0.3% Delta-9-THC by dry weight. Therefore, hemp-derived Delta-8-THC is legal to purchase and use for product formulations including consumer favorites like vaporizable extracts and oils.
Many cannabis users are familiar with Delta-9-THC, the chemical found in the marijuana flower which gives the user a high feeling. However, there are many other useful (and legal) cannabinoids (like THC, CBD, CBG, etc.) in the cannabis plant. Delta-8 THC is similar to its cousin Delta-9 THC in that it causes an intoxicating, euphoric effect, but with some key differences.
Similar to Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC is anti-nausea, anti-anxiety, appetite-stimulating, pain relieving, slows the growth of tumors, and is protective of the brain. It does contain psychoactive properties, but it is much less intense in nature, and seems to eliminate the paranoia, anxiety, and other negative effects that some report with Delta-9 THC. Users report feeling clear headed with Delta-8 THC. You may wish to combine Delta-8 THC products with CBD for what is known as the entourage effect - they help each other work better than if you used them separately.
In 1995, Delta-8 THC was shown to be an efficient new cannabinoid antiemetic (anti-nausea) in pediatric oncology in an experiment conducted in Israel. Delta-8 THC was found to be an effective agent in relieving the symptoms of chemotherapy. Eight children between the ages of 3 and 13 were given the compound two hours before their treatment. Vomiting was eliminated and other side effects lessened. Raphael Mechoulam, called the father of modern-day cannabis research and a patent holder for Delta-8 THC antiemetic treatments, was part of a team comparing Delta-8 THC and metoclopramide (brand name Reglan, an anti-nausea drug commonly used in chemotherapy patients). The children enrolled in the trial were all blood cancer patients — primarily leukemia — and Delta-8 THC stopped all nausea and vomiting induced by the chemotherapy treatments. Metoclopramide was only effective in 40 percent of patients and higher doses caused dangerous side effects. The Delta-8-THC side effects observed were negligible.

Why a mushroom capsule?
-Reishi
For thousands of years, traditional East Asian medicine have used the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma Fungi (Reishi) for their restorative properties. Over time this species has been given the term “MUSHROOM OF IMMORTALITY” and there is plenty of research to support this claim. It contains a plethora of polysaccharides that promote longevity by boosting the immune system, lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, and manages inflammation. It does not stop there! This “heavy hitter” also contains an incredible amount of a triterpenoid, ganoderic acid, that combats cancer directly by inhibiting tumor growth and eradicating cancerous cells. Other research suggests this species of mushroom also supports healthier nerve function. No wonder why this mushroom is the #1 selling medicinal mushroom on the market! Get your comprehensive immune support with our Reishi mushroom tincture!
-Lion’s Mane
The Lion's Mane mushroom has a long history of use in traditional medicines, though, not nearly as in depth as the Reishi mushroom. It is thought to have immunomodulating characteristics too, especially for the intestinal system, but the most appealing property is the one associated with the neurological system. Lion’s Mane contains two compounds, hericenones and erinacines, that directly stimulate the regrowth of brain cells and the creation of the nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein in the myelin sheath of nerve cells that is fundamental for healthy neurological function. Other health promoting substances like antioxidants and beta-glucans not only support the nervous system, but help with regulating mood by lowing anxiety and depressional levels. Feel the clarity with our Lion’s Mane mushroom tincture!
How long will it take to notice the benefits?
Everyone is different when it comes to the way they metabolize food or medications, meaning their reactions to our tinctures will be as well. Our liquid extracts are in the most bioavailable form and can be absorbed very quickly. Some say it only takes a few weeks, while others say a couple of months. Either way, taking the mushrooms for prolonged periods of time will deliver the best long term results.
Can I take too much?
There is an abundance of research that suggest medicinal mushrooms are synergistic, meaning they work better together than alone. Each mushroom has different abilities, take a single species for targeted support or combine with others for a more comprehensive result.
The daily value of this compounds has not yet been established, but what is known is mushrooms, like any other essential foods, can be taken daily. Take the recommended dose unless instructed otherwise by a health care professional.

This is the psychoactive component which causes a positive drug test result and can lead to slowed reaction times and a “high” or “stoned” feeling in users that employers would like to avoid. Conversely, CBD is another cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. ]]>There are three ways CBD can work to improve health outcomes for persons with dementia: by reducing inflammation, by reducing oxygen buildup, and by working as a brain stimulant and neuroprotectant. From a user’s perspective, CBD may reduce stress and anxiety in the individual with dementia as well as reduce the decline of memory and other brain functions.
Alzheimer’s patients’ brain cells often show a path of rapid decline and destruction. The potential of stimulating brain tissue was recently discovered as a potential benefit of CBD. In clinical trials, CBD has shown the ability to reverse and even prevent the development of Alzheimer’s negative impact. A 2011 study by Australian researchers Tim Karl and Carl Group found that CBD promotes the growth and development of brain cells, reducing the decline of memory and other brain functions.
Historically, in 1890, Sir John Russell Reynolds, MD, physician to Queen Victoria, published an account of using cannabis to treat senile dementia in the British medical journal The Lancet. He found a moderate dose given at bedtime gave calming results in agitated patients for months and even years without a need to increase dose.
To create calm in Alzheimer’s patients, dosing can start low, around 5-10 mg of a high myrcene strain of CBD. To achieve anti-inflammatory results in the brain, doses as high as 160-600 mg are being used in most trials.

A recent study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, led by Yasmin Hurd, further demonstrates the ability of CBD to reduce cravings in people with heroin drug addiction. The study involved 42 women and men with history of heroin abuse attempting to abstain from relapse. As part of the experiment, participants were shown two types of videos: neutral videos showing nature scenes and videos showing drug-related cues aiming to trigger drug cravings. The participants were divided into three groups: people who took 400mg of CBD, people who took 800 mg of CBD, and a placebo group.
The interventions were taken for three consecutive days. The experiment was double-blinded, meaning that neither the researchers nor the participants were aware of which conditions they were assigned during the experiment.
As expected, participants experienced higher cravings after seeing the heroin related videos as compared to the neutral videos. However, those participants who took CBD as part of the treatment reported fewer drug cravings than people in the placebo group after exposure to drug-related cues. Results also demonstrate reduction in anxiety as well as reduction in heart rate and cortisol which is the “stress hormone.” The effects of the intervention were visible as soon as one hour after administration of CBD and were still visible up to one week after the intervention.
Higher than normally recommended CBD doses seem to be more effective for severe addiction cases. Trials have been done with both 400mg and 800mg of CBD per day per patient.

]]>Interestingly, studies have shown that ADHD may cause an increase in self-medication with cannabis medicines due to the relieving effects users report.
Low-myrcene, high-pinene, and pure CBD cannabis strains seem to encourage hyper focus for up to 90 minutes. The momentum established from 90 minutes of task focus often precludes the need for further cannabis doses that day. Interestingly, lower doses of 5-10mg CBD seem to work best for ADHD relief as opposed to higher doses.
Dr. Franjo Grotenhermen and Dr. Eva Milz conducted and analyzed a clinical study in Germany between 2012-2014 that demonstrated successful therapy and treatment of ADD/ADHD with cannabis. Among 30 patients that were treatment-resistant to conventional pharmaceutical therapies such as methylphenidate, atomoxetine and amphetamines, or their derivatives like Ritalin and Adderall, 22 of them ceased all stimulant use and switched to cannabis as their sole treatment.

Osteoarthritis causes cartilage (the hard, slippery tissue that covers the ends of bones where they form a joint) to break down. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease in which the immune system attacks the joints, beginning with the lining of joints.
CBD can be a great treatment for arthritis, and many of our customers report reduced or even eliminated need for pharmaceutical pain medications.
Cannabis has been used for the treatment of arthritis since around 2500 B.C. when it was recommended in Shen-Nung’s Chinese pharmacopeia. Cannabis high in myrcene, limonene, and linalool may add synergistic effects that help with arthritis. Additionally, high CBC varieties are showing great promise for anti-inflammatory effects.

Cannabis products are considered effective for fibromyalgia pain. Researchers interviewed 66 patients at Luigi Sacco University Hospital in Milan, Italy, over six months of treatment. The average participant was 52 years old, and over 90% of sufferers were women (women make up the vast majority of people with fibromyalgia). The study focused on treating refractory patients (patients who are consistently taking medication but haven’t found relief). Just under half of the patients were taking two other drugs, while nearly a third took at least three. These drugs were severe central sedatives, including opioids, anti-convulsants, nerve blockers, and anti-depressants. Nearly half of patients (47%) got enough relief from cannabis to reduce or cease their painkiller usage, an astounding figure given the intensity of the drugs those patients were already taking.
Between a third and half of the patients experienced notable benefits with respect to sleep, anxiety, depression, and pain symptoms. The majority of patients were overweight or obese, and cannabis seemed to be more effective for heavier patients. Some participants were excluded, including those who already used cannabis and people with other pain or rheumatological diseases.
The authors conclude: “Adjunctive [Medical Cannabis Treatment] may therefore be considered, especially in the [fibromyalgia] sub-population suffering from significant sleep disturbances and mild anxio-depressive symptoms.”
Full spectrum (containing up to .3% THC) products starting at 10 mg CBD per dose are a good starting place for fibromyalgia sufferers. In some cases, a considerably higher dose may be needed for severe pain. Start low and work up to find your ideal dosage.

]]>If you have ever taken a medicine that has a warning label that says "Do Not Consume Grapefruit or Grapefruit Juice With This Medication" you have "disabled" your CYP450 enzymes! That warning is because grapefruit juice blocks the CYP450 enzymes so much so that other molecules may not be metabolized. This leads to higher concentrations of the discarded molecules in your blood stream; with some prescriptions this could lead to serious issues as it would be equivalent to taking a higher dosage. With this effect some doctors are able to recommend/prescribe lower doses of prescription medicine alongside cannabis oil.
]]>Terpenes are hydroxy (hydrogen & oxygen) molecules that give off aromas & assist cannabinoids in their functions. There are over 200 terpenes that can be found in Cannabis Sativa in various amounts. A-Pinene is a common terpene that smells of pine trees or slightly woody & assists in memory retention, is a bronchodilator, & provides uplifting effects.
Terpenoids are terpenes that have been in contact with oxygen, usually through the curing process, and have degraded to a certain point. Terpenes/terpenoids are nature's way to repelling certain insects while attracting beneficial insects/animals.
Trichomes are the small resin glands that contain a large amount of cannabinoids & terpenes. They can vary in color slightly, but can be mostly clear or milky depending on genetics & environmental factors.
Resin is a thicker-than-sap liquid made within the outer layers of most plants. Its function is to excrete from "wounds" in plants to cover and protect the wound from infection. Resin contains many compounds for helping in recovery for the plant that also benefits animals when consumed.

You can easily decarb your own plant material in an oven at 190-220°F for 30-50 minutes. You can then infuse the cannabinoids into butter, oil, or any other fatty-acid-containing material, enjoy!
]]>There are at least 113 known phytocannabinoids (cannabinoids derived from plant material).
Main cannabinoid classes:
Each cannabinoid has specific symptoms it is associated with relieving, this is due to the metabolic pathway it takes within our body. Taking an isolated cannabinoid will provide relief specific to the area it reacts with, but taking a Full Spectrum product will provide more well rounded relief. This is due to the Entourage Effect which is simply a term used to describe the synergistic relationship between the compounds. With other cannabinoids/terpenes to assist in passing the blood/brain barrier, penetrating cell membranes, & other tactics cannabinoids can cross into parts of the body it could not without its counterparts.
]]>In lower concentration CBD increases alertness/wakefulness making it great for getting through a long day or kick starting your workout! While in larger quantities (200mg+) has more of a calming, almost sedating, effect. This dosage is great for severe sleep impairments, PTSD, severe anxiety, & has even helped people with drug withdrawal symptoms.
]]>CBD isolate has phenomenal benefits in and of itself; from anti-inflammation, to anti-anxiety, even anti-bacterial. It is also biphasic, meaning at a low dose it has different effects than larger doses; bringing alertness is lower doses and acting more of a sedative/sleep aid in larger doses.
]]>"Hemp" has been cultivated over time to provide more fiber/biomass than "marijuana," making it a better candidate for textile uses. Because textiles were the intended use the tallest, most fibrous cannabis plants were selected to provide more fiber than oil.
"Marijuana," on the other hand, has been cultivated for maximum THC content mostly for medicinal/recreational use. Because of the desire for resin glands (therefore THC content) the plants that were selected were shorter and bushier for more oil production than fiber. The results of this selective breeding expressed the widest possibilities of genetics of the cannabis plant, leading us to believe them as completely different plants; they are one in the same.
Tennessee state law requires any cannabis derived products must be derived from "hemp", not "marijuana"; it also reclassified "hemp" as having 0.3% THC or less. Determining where any cannabis product was derived from is difficult because the only difference is THC content, not allowing for definitive proof of origin.
You can urge your legislators to have more consumer-friendly cannabis laws here. Enough voices cannot be kept quiet.
]]>It is generally recommended to start with only a few milligrams per day and track the results closely as most animals have faster metabolisms than humans. Applying cannabinoids topically to your pet for skin conditions, muscle soreness, etc. benefits them greatly! We suggest using a minute amount at first to test allergic reactions. Dogs have higher percentage of cannabinoid receptors in the brain than most other animals, leading us to believe THC overdose is possible in dogs, though not enough research has been done to conclude this.
]]>This method of absorption is one of the most popular ways consumers choose to administer cannabis. It allows the consumer to fluctuate their dose to seek the maximum amount of medical benefits available from this plant. No matter the strength purchased it is best practice to start with a low daily dose and slowly increase dosage as needed until relief is achieved.
]]>Cannabinoids have been found to help communication between different types of cells to help with lessening pain signals originating in the area, stabilize the nerve ending to prevent severe pains & calms nearby immune cells preventing inflammation. These 3 mechanisms of cannabinoids is what provides us with the relief known from this plant.
Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids that the human body produces within itself, there are currently two known endocannabinoids. Phytocannabinoids are plant-derived cannabinoids, the most popular ones being CBD & THC. There are well over 100 known phytocannabinoids with more being discovered every year. Combined with endocannabinoids phytocannabinoids promote good health with a holistic approach. Although CBD isolate offers great medical potential taking a full spectrum product will provide more cannabinoids in it, giving more potential for relief.
