CBD (Cannabidiol)

What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis sativa plant. It is one of over 100 cannabinoids present in cannabis and hemp plants, but unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce the “high” associated with marijuana use.

What Are the Different Types of CBD?

Full Spectrum: Contains all naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant, including cannabinoids (like CBD and trace amounts of THC), terpenes, and flavonoids. It may produce an “entourage effect,” where the compounds work together for enhanced benefits. Full Spectrum CBD contains 0.3% or less total THC content, meaning there are trace amounts of THC, but it will not produce a “high” or euphoric effect.

Broad Spectrum CBD: Similar to full-spectrum CBD but with zero or non-detectable THC. Broad Spectrum CBD still contains other cannabinoids and terpenes, offering some of the entourage effects without THC.

CBD Isolate: Pure CBD containing no other cannabinoids, terpenes, or plant compounds. It is THC-free and best for those who want only CBD without any extras.

How is CBD Extracted?

One CBD extraction method uses the ethanol extraction by grinding the plant, decarboxylating it by heating it in an oven, and soaking the decarboxylated flower in a food grade ethanol. The soaked flower is then stored in a cool, dark, dry place and filtered out. Most CBD products carried at Hemp House are extracted using this safe and effective method.

CBD can also be extracted using CO2 extraction, in which pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) is used to pull the entire profile of cannabinoids, waxes, fats and terpenes from the hemp plant.

How is CBD Consumed?

CBD can be consumed in several forms, depending on individual preferences and desired effects:

·         Capsules: Pre-measured doses of CBD that offer a slow and steady release.

·         Edibles: Gummies, chocolates, and other food products infused with CBD for easy and tasty consumption.

·         Isolates and Concentrates: Highly purified CBD in powder or crystal form, often used for dabbing or mixing into foods.

·         Oils and Tinctures: Liquid CBD extracts that are taken sublingually (under the tongue) for quick absorption.

·         Topicals: Creams, lotions, balms, and patches applied to the skin to target localized pain and/or inflammation.

·         Vaping: Inhaling CBD vape oil for fast-acting effects.

Benefits and Effects of CBD

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the human body, which helps regulate mood, pain, sleep, immune response, and other bodily functions. While research is ongoing, studies suggest CBD may have the following effects:

·         Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Potentially useful for conditions like arthritis and skin issues.

·         Anti-Seizure: FDA-approved Epidiolex is a CBD-based drug used to treat epilepsy.

·         Anxiety and Stress Reduction: May promote relaxation and help with anxiety disorders.

·         Heart Health: May lower blood pressure and support cardiovascular health.

·         Improved Sleep: May aid in falling and staying asleep.

·         Mental Health Support: Some evidence suggests CBD could help with depression, PTSD, and OCD.

·         Neuroprotective Effects: There is ongoing research on CBD for its potential in treating neurological disorders like epilepsy, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s.

·         Pain Relief: May help with chronic pain, arthritis, and muscle soreness.

Potential Side Effects of CBD

While generally well-tolerated, CBD could have side effects in some users, including dry mouth, drowsiness or fatigue, changes in appetite or weight, diarrhea or nausea, and possible interactions with medications.

Will CBD Make Me Fail a Drug Test?

While you’re unlikely to fail a drug test after a single use, you may be more likely to test positive for THC if you consume Full Spectrum CBD products often, such as daily for an extended period of time. Consumers who may be subject to drug testing should use Broad Spectrum or Isolate CBD products. CBD topicals are absorbed into your skin, not your bloodstream, and cannot cause a positive test for marijuana.

Is CBD Legal?

Based on the 2018 Farm Bill, the purchase, possession, and use of CBD products is currently legal in the State of Tennessee.

* Important Considerations *

Purchasing CBD products from a reputable dispensary is important for ensuring quality, safety, and legality. Reputable dispensaries always test their products for potency and contaminants, giving you complete confidence in what you’re consuming. They also provide accurate product labeling, so you know exactly what you’re getting. Always make sure to research a dispensary’s practices and check for third-party lab test results before purchasing products.

Hemp House Cannabis Dispensary is focused on supporting local farmers and providing high-quality, lab-tested products while also educating consumers on how to use them. Offering local products creates a strong community connection while keeping your dollars in our community. We strive to provide the highest quality products while building trust with our customers.

Always check with a medical professional before discontinuing any medications.
